On Friday, February 20th, the Sir Brian Bell Foundation extended a helping hand to the Mt Hagen Provincial Hospital’s Paediatric Ward with a donation of K25,000, bringing much-needed relief to one of the busiest hospitals in the Highlands region.
The contribution, presented by the Brian Bell Home Centre team from Mount Hagen, also included toys for the young patients, sparking joy and smiles among children facing difficult times.
Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority’s Acting CEO, Jane Holden, expressed her gratitude for the timely support, noting the significant demand on their facilities. She explained that 33% of patients arriving at the hospital are from Enga Province, followed by Southern Highlands and Jiwaka, with many of these patients being children in need of urgent care.
She emphasized that the situation is particularly challenging given the high number of paediatric cases requiring specialized attention while noting that the Western Highlands PHA remains one of the least funded PHAs in the country.
Holden noted that the donation received is both timely and crucial, as it will enable the hospital to provide better care for these young patients, most of whom are battling meningitis and other chronic conditions.
Tony Incoll, Branch Manager for Brian Bell Home Centre in Mt Hagen, emphasized that the donation reflects the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting communities through charitable programs. He highlighted that giving back through initiatives like this is a way to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who need it most.
“Our team was deeply moved by the courage and resilience of the young patients we met, and equally inspired by the dedication of the amazing healthcare workers who tirelessly to devote themselves to their calling. It was a truly humbling experience to be allowed to represent the Sir Brian Bell Foundation during this visit,” he concluded.
Such support through the Sir Brian Bell Foundation continues to play a vital role in uplifting communities and improving the quality of life for individuals across PNG.
