The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and PNG-Australian Policing Partners bring warmth to Mt Hagen Hospital’s Youngest Patients
In a collaborative effort, the PNG-Australian Policing Partnership (PNG-APP) and the Western Highlands Provincial Police Command, representing the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC), donated six bales of clothing and blankets to the Paediatric Ward of Mt Hagen Provincial Hospital yesterday afternoon.
This donation, which marks the first of its kind from the police department, was warmly received by hospital staff. The bales contained essential items, including infant and children’s clothing, as well as blankets, which are critical supplies for young patients battling pneumonia, the leading cause of admission at the hospital.
Sr Janet Yamu, Director of Nursing Services, received the donation and expressed heartfelt gratitude during the handover ceremony.
“On behalf of our acting CEO, Jane Holden and the hospital management, we extend a big thank you to the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary and the Policing Partners for prioritising the needs of our children,” she said. “With pneumonia filling more than 50 per cent of our bed capacity, these extra clothes and blankets will help keep our children warm and bring smiles to their faces and their parents.”
She added that the gesture would ripple beyond the hospital walls, strengthening community trust and highlighting the value of partnerships in public health.
“This act of kindness shows your concern for our children and contributes to building a healthier population,” Sr Yamu said.
The donation displays a growing commitment by law enforcement agencies, proving that their role extends far beyond policing.
