Highlighting the vital role of wellness in the justice system, staff from the Mt Hagen court community recently gathered in a vibrant display of colour and energy to mark their Judicial Wellbeing Day.

Judges and staff wore pink and yellow T-shirts to commemorate the occasion, which was dedicated to health, teamwork, and appreciation for everyone who serves within the judiciary at the Mt Hagen National Court.

As part of the day’s activities, Mt Hagen hospital team partnered with the court to provide on-site health services. This initiative offered a refreshing break from the courtroom, bringing every member of the National Court of Justice in a collective focus on wellness and support.

The event was inspired by the 2024 Nauru Declaration on Judicial Wellbeing, which declares July 25 as the Judicial Wellness Day.

The court officials were divided into two groups for the program. One group participated in First Aid Training led by Dr McKup Jnr and his team, where they learned vital emergency response
skills. The second group received health checks, including blood pressure screening and general wellness assessments, conducted by Dr Adiunegiya and his team. Later, the two groups switched activities.

Acting Judge Sailas Kaule gave an important speech about the role of everyone in the judicial system. “Whether you are a security guard, gardener, judge, or magistrate, each of you is vital in delivering justice. Today shows the need to support everyone in the justice system, from courtrooms to administrative offices”.

“This day is not just for the judges; it’s for all of you,” he added. He stressed the importance of integrity and professionalism. He encouraged staff to avoid bribery and nepotism and to do their jobs properly. “To do your best, you must first be healthy and strong. A healthy person feels fulfilled and can work effectively.”

The Mt Hagen Court’s focus on health and integrity reflects a growing movement to build a more compassionate and resilient judicial community. It is a reminder to foster a culture of wellness and integrity.
