Litehaus International, an Australian NGO recognized for donating laptops and desktops to schools in Papua New Guinea (PNG) for the past seven years, has made its first donation of 400 nurses’ scrubs to Mt. Hagen Provincial Hospital last Thursday. This donation was facilitated through the support of the Mater Hospital in Townsville, Australia.

The donation was led by Litehaus Country Director and Kopi Ward Councillor Peter Raim, along with other representatives from Litehaus. Cr. Raim emphasized the significance of this contribution, stating that it was driven by a desire to alleviate the financial burden nurses face when purchasing uniforms.

“For years, Litehaus International has put technology in the hands of students. Today, we have provided uniforms to those who care for our health,” said Cr. Raim. “These scrubs will not only bring comfort, but they will also demonstrate our shared commitment to those serving our communities.”

The presentation took place in front of the hospital’s administration car park, in the presence of hospital staff and management.

Upon receiving the donations, Hospital Manager Serah Dot expressed her gratitude to Litehaus International and Mater Hospital for selecting Mt. Hagen Hospital among other health facilities in the country.

Director of Nursing Services Sr. Janet Yamu also conveyed her appreciation, noting that the scrubs arrived at a crucial time for her dedicated team of frontline clinicians.

“These are not just uniforms; they are a daily necessity,” said Sr. Yamu. “The timing of this gift speaks volumes, and we are grateful to Litehaus and Mater Hospital for recognizing
our needs and acting on them.”

The Western Highlands Provincial Health Authority (WHPHA) extended its heartfelt thanks to Litehaus International and Mater Hospital, highlighting the vital role such partnerships play in enhancing healthcare standards in the region. Looking ahead, Cr. Raim offered to support the hospital further by donating computers in the future to improve its services. He stated, “Let us know how many you need, and we will do some donations”.

Since 2017, Litehaus International has equipped schools and universities across PNG with essential digital tools. Now, its reach and impact have expanded. For the nurses in Mt. Hagen, this donation could not have come at a better time.
